Overnight search ends in tragedy for missing Lanett woman; exposure suspected

LANETT, Ala. (WRBL) — A missing Lanett woman has been found deceased following an overnight search this weekend according to Denise McCain, chief of the Lanett Police Department.

A family member last saw Teresa Finley, 71, Saturday evening January 31, 2026. She was reported missing a few hours later, at approximately 11:20 p.m., after leaving her home in the Crystal Springs community. Family members reported Finley had impaired cognitive abilities, raising concern as temperatures dropped overnight.

Authorities located Ms. Finley several hours later. Preliminary information indicates Ms. Finley may have died from exposure to the dangerously cold temperatures overnight. Chief McCain said the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation…
