Local homeless advocate says some of state funding could be used for prevention program

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Homelessness is an issue in the current General Assembly session. Gov. Brian Kemp has allocated $50 million in the state budget to address street-level homelessness.

Local homeless advocates are aware of the potential funding and would like to see a third of it go to what they say is an essential homeless prevention program, said Home for Good Executive Director Pat Frey.

“Emergency rental assistance equates to homelessness prevention, meaning those who are at risk of homelessness due to not being able to pay the bills would be able to access those resources to prevent homelessness,” Frey said…
