When you walk into The 706 Social, 1025 Broadway in Columbus, it’s easy to see vibrant displays of a clothing boutique up front. But if you venture to the back of the first floor, a variety of local flavor and homemade treats opens up, thanks in part to vendors like 18th Avenue Sweets.

Kristin Everett, owner of 18th Avenue Sweets, said baking is her way of giving back to her community.

“I just really enjoy making things for people,” she told the Ledger-Enquirer. “I’m not much of a cook, but I can definitely make a good cookie. So, if someone’s having a rough day, I’m like ‘I can’t fix it, but I can make something to help you eat your feelings a bit.’”

Raised in a family that loved gathering in the kitchen, Everett’s earliest memories are filled with baking alongside her mom. Originally from the Seattle area, she moved to Columbus over a decade ago, drawn by an opportunity to serve in campus ministry…
