Piggly Wiggly was founded in Memphis by Clarence Saunders and first wiggled its curly tail in 1916. By the 1920s, Piggly Wiggly had become a chain in the South and beyond.
Sadly, the Piggly Wiggly located on 13th Street in Phenix Plaza, which has served our community since opening in 1972, will soon be closing its doors.
A press release stated that the decision has come after several years of financial challenges at that location, including operating losses, significant equipment replacement needs, and the uncertainty of a month-to-month lease, all of which have made it no longer feasible to continue operations there…
