COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The community gathered Monday to honor retired Maj. Gen. William Steele during a memorial service at the National Infantry Museum. Steele died at his home earlier this month.
The Maneuver Center of Excellence rendered full military honors as a tribute to Steele and his family.
Remembering a legacy of service
Steele served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1979. His assignments included a post at Fort Benning, where he commanded the 197th Independent Infantry Brigade from 1972 to 1974.
