BEAUREGARD, Ala. (WTVM) – A candlelight and prayer vigil was held Tuesday night at Providence Baptist Church in Opelika to mark seven years since an EF-4 tornado tore through Beauregard and Smiths Station, killing 23 people and injuring 90 others.
The March 3, 2019, storm killed victims ranging in age from 6 to 89. It was the deadliest tornado in Alabama in decades.
Community gathers to remember
Providence Baptist Church, which hosts a permanent memorial for the victims, held the annual vigil to honor those who died. Community and county leaders attended the event.
