Beyond the Yellow Tape Part 2: Retracing Ronald Worrell’s final hours

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus Police Department investigators are seeking new leads in the 2007 murder of Ronald Worrell, a cold case that has remained unsolved for nearly 19 years.

Worrell, 39, was shot and killed July 27, 2007, just after arriving home at 2320 7th St., the home he shared with his girlfriend.

Retracing the final hours

According to his girlfriend, Worrell had spent the earlier part of that evening at an apartment complex with friends. He picked her up from work on Fort Benning Road around 11:30 p.m. and stopped at Sherwood Arms Apartments on the way home. After dropping her off, Worrell returned to the complex.

“He leaves there around 4 a.m., and at 4:22, he’s being shot outside his car returning home,” said Sgt. Robert Nicholas of the Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit…
