COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Friday the 13th can be a spooky day filled with the fear of superstitions for many people, but in tattoo culture, it brings plenty of deals and ink.
A local tattoo artist and owner of Main Event Tattoo, Zac Day, has hosted a tattoo event every Friday the 13th since opening the shop in June 2021.
“It’s a way to give back because they are a discounted price for tattoos,” said Owner of Main Event Tattoo Zac Day. “My experience is it’s a lot of return clientele that have come in, and they’re just getting something for fun… And whenever I opened the shop, the unit number was 13. So it was kind of like a sign of like, ‘oh, yeah, you got to do the Friday 13th deals.’”
Several tattoo shops around the world offer deals on every Friday the 13th, as part of a tradition that takes a spin on the bad luck associated with the day.
“The 13, everybody hates the number 13, they think it’s bad,” Day said. “Like the Black Cats and all the things that go on with negative superstition. As far as tattoos go, it’s a little bit different. It started in the 90s. Oliver Peck in Dallas kind of started it, and that’s where the event for tattoos kind of came from.”…
