Exclusive: City of Columbus settles wrongful death suit in 2017 police chase that killed a Phenix City man

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) After nearly nine years of litigation, the city of Columbus has settled a wrongful death suit with the family of a man killed in a 2017 police chase.

The city council voted last week with no discussion to pay the family of Frank McLemore $530,000. McLemore was killed when Columbus police chased a suspect into Phenix City. McLemore’s wife, Erin, was seriously injured when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into them, leaving her 50th class reunion.

“There’s a traffic camera at that intersection that caught the entire thing,” said Zoe McLemore Williams. “It even caught Mom and Dad walking out of the central activity center and getting in the car. You see Mom and Dad, and you see my best final moments, right? There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to have a time machine to go back and tell them not to go in the car. Nothing.”…
