Lopers Fall in Columbus; UWA Up Next

Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney tennis teams fell to the Columbus (Ga.) State Cougars Friday in Columbus, Ga.

The sixth-ranked Cougar men improved to 8-0 after a 7-0 win over the 34th-ranked Lopers (10-3). UNK had won its past seven duals. Next, the 20th-ranked CSU women (5-2) got past the Blue & Gold, 5-2, thanks to several close decisions.

On the men’s side, Columbus won a couple of close doubles matches and took two singles matches in three sets. The Cougars scored the final three points to win 6-3 at three doubles but junior Tom van den Dungen (The Netherlands) and freshman Illan Fuentes (France) rallied at two to win, 6-4. In the top spot, junior Andy Brisdon (U.K.) and sophomore Ivan Melnik (Germany) rallied from a 5-2 hole to tie things up at six. They were up 2-0 in the tie break but CSU came back to win, 7-4, and take a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard…
