COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus City Council discussed ongoing road construction projects at a work session, including a major traffic change coming to Buena Vista Road over I-185.
A new diverging diamond interchange is in the works, designed to improve traffic flow and cut down on crashes. Construction began in 2020. According to Director of Engineering Vance Beck, the $52.7 million T-SPLOST funded project is 77% complete with an estimated completion date of December 2026.
Utility work slowed progress
During the city council work session, Beck explained why the project has taken time to complete, with rearranging utilities being a major contributor.
“You got water, fiber, gas, you got all the overhead utilities. That was a large project,” Beck said.
Residents compare to Bradley Park project
Many residents voiced concerns on social media, with many sharing the same opinion that the recently completed diverging diamond on Bradley Park was finished quicker than the Buena Vista Road diverging diamond.
