Paul and Gwen Belcher have been residents of Phenix City for almost 50 years and will celebrate 67 years of marriage this June. He grew up in South Alabama, and Gwen grew up in North Alabama. Both are familiar and beloved people in our community.
When asked how their marriage has endured for so long, Gwen said, “Love and respect and being close to the Lord.”
Paul and Gwen both attended Auburn University, where they met. He earned a degree in horticulture, and Gwen chose teaching. Right after college, Paul became a nursery manager, and Gwen became an elementary teacher. However, Paul had to give up his job due to a back injury, which kept him from heavy lifting.
