Multi-agency crackdowns set local arrests, major fentanyl finds

A sweeping multi-agency crackdown on crime in Russell County and Phenix City has led to dozens of arrests and the seizure of large quantities of illegal drugs, underscoring what authorities describe as an escalating fight against narcotics trafficking along the Alabama-Georgia border.

The initiative, known as “Operation Safe Streets,” brought together the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and the Phenix City Police Department, along with regional partners, including agencies from neighboring Muscogee County, Georgia. The operation targeted fugitives and drug-related activity across Russell County and surrounding areas.

Authorities said the effort resulted in 22 arrests and cleared 55 outstanding warrants tied to investigations on both sides of the state line. Investigators seized trafficking-level amounts of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding $500,000.
