Hilliard funeral home issues response to accidental cremation lawsuit

HILLIARD, Ohio (WCMH) – A central Ohio funeral home that was sued for mistakenly cremating a woman against her wishes has issued an apology, but says the lawsuit could put it out of business.

On June 2, Nancy Anders’ children filed a lawsuit against Hilliard’s Tidd Funeral Home and the business’ owner, Rick Tidd, along with other employees. Anders died on May 28, 2025, at the age of 83.

According to the filing, Anders had detailed plans regarding her death arrangements, including being buried in the same casket as her husband of 63 years, who died in 2023. A court order had to be obtained to exhume her husband’s coffin. While her remains were being held at the funeral home awaiting this, she was mistakenly cremated about 10 days after her death.
