Schwebel’s WARN notice leaves opening to stall closure

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Schwebel’s Baking Company issued its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) to the State of Ohio, as required by law, the same day last week that it issued a press release to local media stating that it was shutting down operations.

The WARN notice contains most of the same information as the company’s press release, reiterating that company officials saw no path forward to keep the bakery operating, adding that the company intends to permanently lay off all 673 workers statewide by Labor Day and that it put off issuing the notice sooner so potential buyers or investors would not be put off from a deal.
