COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Human remains found in two separate Minnesota lakes more than 30 years ago have been identified as a missing woman who had recently moved there from Columbus.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Stillwater announced this month it had identified a Jane Doe as Columbus native Denise Hartley, who went missing from nearby St. Paul at age 27 in 1993.
Her remains were found that same year, though her identity was unknown. On June 12, 1993, a severed human head was discovered near the shoreline of Bone Lake in Scandia. The following day, a foot that was later determined to be from the same individual was recovered about 20 miles southwest in Pig’s Eye Lake in St. Paul.
