Five years after Makenzi Ridley’s killing, her legacy still inspires friends, family

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Five years after 17-year-old Makenzi Ridley was shot and killed just days after graduating from St. Francis DeSales High School, family and friends say her influence is still pushing them forward — even as her killing remains unsolved.

Ridley was shot and killed June 24, 2021, outside the Far East Rec Center during a gathering of young people when she was caught in the crossfire of two groups exchanging gunfire. Despite dozens of witnesses, the person responsible has not been caught.
