COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Visitors to Schiller Park this week were met with an unpleasant sight as dozens of dead fish floated to the surface of the park’s pond.
According to the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, the fish kill was caused by a natural event known as a “pond flip.”
Officials told ABC 6 that recent changes in air and water temperatures caused oxygen-poor water from the bottom of the pond to rise to the surface, creating a dissolved oxygen deficiency. As a result, about 50 fish, primarily bottom-dwelling species such as carp and catfish died…
