For many residents of southern Delaware County, Interstate 71 is close enough to hear but not always easy to reach. Drivers from Orange and Genoa townships often rely on congested local roads to reach the Polaris-Gemini interchange to the south or the U.S. 36-State Route 37 interchange to the north. A long-discussed proposal would create another option between them, building a new I-71 interchange at or near Big Walnut Road.
The project remains in development, with no construction date established. Its inclusion among the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s newest priority projects, however, is giving the decades-old idea renewed regional attention.
