Custom farming rates jump 7% to 10% across major crops

Just in time for harvest, Ohio State University has released an updated custom farming rates survey.

These surveys were mailed or emailed to past respondents and distributed at various Extension programs last winter. About 343 farmers, custom operators, farm managers and landowners responded to them, said Eric Richer, farm management Extension specialist with Ohio State University. The survey is done every two years.

“The winter 2026 response rate was just a few responses higher than the 2024 level,” Richer said. “We are happy with the response rate across so many field operations, but it’s always nice to get more.”…
