Details released by Ohio officials and reported in the original post say the poaching happened during the 2023 season. The hunter, Christopher J. Alexander of Wilmington, ended up with the largest restitution order ever issued in Ohio for a single white-tailed deer.
A trophy buck, taken the wrong way
Authorities say Alexander unlawfully shot the 18-point buck in November 2023. That’s the kind of deer that drives a lot of the tradition and excitement around the rut—months of scouting, watching trail-camera pictures, playing the wind, and passing younger bucks.
