Officials address domestic violence in Columbus, Franklin County

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Columbus and Franklin County leaders met for the second annual Big Table discussion on domestic violence, looking at what has changed over the past year and where victims still face barriers when seeking help.

The discussion brought together law enforcement, prosecutors, victim advocates, health care professionals and other community partners.

Rena Shak, executive director of the Columbus Office of Violence Prevention, said one of the biggest concerns raised during last year’s discussion was that people did not know what resources were available to those experiencing domestic violence. Since then, Columbus officials have worked to expand domestic violence education through the DV 101 campaign. The campaign focuses on helping people recognize signs of domestic violence, understand available resources and know what to do when someone they know may need help.
