Pedestrian seriously hurt in Far West Side hit-and-run

A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Columbus’ Far West Side late Saturday night.

The victim, whom Columbus police identified only as an “adult,” was walking on Sullivant Ave. near Grener Ave. around 11 p.m. when an unknown vehicle struck them. After the crash, the vehicle’s driver fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The pedestrian was transported to Grant Medical Center in Downtown Columbus. They are expected to survive their injuries, according to the police.

The Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.

This is not the first serious hit-and-run involving a pedestrian or cyclist in Columbus this year. On Jan. 12, Earl Kennedy, a 67-year-old Hilltop man, was hit and killed while riding a bicycle on the Far South Side.

On Dec. 24 last year, a woman was walking on Dyer Road on Columbus’ West Side when she was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene.

The police encourage anyone with information about the crash on Saturday night to contact the Accident Investigation Unit at (614) 645-4767. Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-8477.
