A FLAG deemed a political statement by a homeowners association but a tribute to a father who lost his son has led to a lawsuit.
Tom DiSario had a “thin blue line” flag outside his home in Pataskala, Ohio, but after five years he got threatened with fines over it.
DiSario’s son was a police officer who was shot and killed during a shooting at a nursing home in 2017, according to the Washington Post.
The same month he decided to raise the flag, with no issues from his HOA.
However, in May 2022, the father received a “Deed Restriction Violation” from Omni Community Association Managers.
The HOA called the flag a “political statement” and demanded he take it down within ten days.
The American flag with a blue thin line in between was created in 2014 to express support for the pro-police “Blue Lives Matter” movement.
While some say its a way to show support for law enforcement others view it as a direct response to the Black Lives Matter movement that was created around the same time.
