Country singer-songwriter Toby Keith has died . He was 62.

Keith, who was battling stomach cancer , passed peacefully on Monday surrounded by his family . “He fought his fight with grace and courage,” a statement posted on the country singer’s website said. He was diagnosed in 2022.

Keith visited Columbus many times throughout his career, and was even scheduled to perform at the Ohio State Fair in 2022 before his cancer ultimately forced him to cancel his appearance.

Keith performed in Columbus often in the 2000s

Keith performed in Columbus in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007, according to The Dispatch archives. He often performed at the Germain Amphitheater, which was located near Westerville.

Keith also holds the honor of performing the last concert at Germain Amphitheater (formerly known as the Polaris Amphitheater) in 2007 before it closed permanently.

Keith canceled Ohio State Fair show due to cancer

Keith canceled his July 2022 concert at the Ohio State Fair after announcing his fight with cancer in June of that year, The Dispatch previously reported . The “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” singer indicated before canceling the show that he had been battling stomach cancer for much of the past year.
