Columbus trucking company owner pleads in Bath & Body Works, Amazon shipping scheme

The owner of a Columbus trucking company pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court to wire fraud, admitting he participated with others in a scheme to illegally overbill shippers for products bound for Bath & Body Works and Amazon warehouses, according to federal prosecutors.

Gurtej “Gary” Singh, 48, a naturalized U.S. citizen from India, also admitted to illegally removing and consolidating items bound for Bath and Body Works stores and Amazon warehouses. Singh’s actions resulted in the loss of “hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of goods,” according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.

Singh worked from April 2018 tp December 2019 as a warehouse manager at Cargo Solution Express, a Columbus logistics company located off Fisher Road on the Far West Side near the Interstates 70 and 270 interchange, authorities said.

In January 2020, the release said Singh created his own Columbus trucking company with a warehouse named Bhullar Transport Group LLC, located on Interchange Drive about 1.5 miles from Cargo Solutions Express, but on the opposite or east side of the I-270 and I-71 interchange on the city’s West Side.
