Jason Stephens, House Speaker in Columbus at the Statehouse, says the $250 million is critical since there are numerous jail sites across the state. Some of the sites have not had the proper updates in quite some time.

“They’re dangerous for not only the corrections officers, obviously, but the inmates,” Stephens said. “But we want to have a safe place for people to work and we want to make sure those buildings are taken care of.”

The Ohio House of Representatives passed the bill. It is currently awaiting to be introduced into the State Senate.

A few local cosponsors of the bill listed include Willis Blackshear, Jr., Sara Carruthers and Jon Cross.
