LANCASTER − Barb Huber is an institution at St. Bernadette Catholic School.
She is the school secretary and has worked their for 30 years. The school has pre-school through fifth grade and will add a sixth grade next year.
“I’m in charge of the school office,” Huber said. “Phone calls, emails, clerical duties for the principal and the teachers. And we just have a school nurse half day a week so when she’s not there I take care of the children’s needs as far as Band-Aids, not feeling well and things like that.”
Thirty years ago her husband worked at the school in maintenance and Huber spent her first year helping him. She was then asked to become the secretary.
Huber said she enjoys her job and that there’s nothing much she doesn’t like about it.
“Some days are busy and hectic, but I like that, too,” she said. “The first 25 years I worked with the same principal and we became close friends. When she passed away I missed her. But I transitioned well to a new principal the last few years. So that’s probably a highlight, to make friends with my boss for 25 years.”
