Teenager in critical condition after southwest Columbus shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot early Friday morning in the southwest side of Columbus.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 5500 block of Aviator Avenue in the Westland area at 12:47 a.m. Police confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was shot in the torso area and transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Unsolved Ohio: Columbus father missing for five years

The boy, who was shot in one area of the Bolton Estates Apartments, was found in a different area after he ran for help. Police said he was in surgery, but no update was available as of 5:30 a.m. Friday.

It was the second shooting within hours of each other in which a teenager was critically injured from a shooting. Earlier Thursday afternoon a 13-year-old boy was shot in the Eastland area. He was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
