Man accused of making Molotov cocktail arrested on arson, assault charges

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – A Columbus man was arrested this week for allegedly making a Molotov cocktail and threatening to set a woman on fire.

Columbus police were called Tuesday to the Creekside Apartments on the East Side, where they arrested Tyonte Diggs, who allegedly assaulted and attempted to set the victim on fire.

Police found two dish towels near a bottle of grain alcohol and a lighter. The victim told police that Diggs was upset because she no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him.

That’s when, police said, Diggs assaulted her and threatened to set the apartment on fire. Diggs reportedly set a towel on fire while holding the bottle of alcohol before blowing the flames out. Diggs allegedly then placed part of another dish towel inside the bottle, placed it over the woman’s head and lit it on fire, before blowing it out again.

The victim told police she recorded the conversation on her phone, and police said video captured the assault.
