Violent crime is in a retreat, and it seems to be a nationwide motion, including in cities like Austin, which has seen a notable decrease in criminal activity. A survey of 69 major cities conducted by the Major Cities Chiefs Association, and analyzed by KVUE, shows a drop in violent crime in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year. Highlights from the Austin Police Department include eight fewer homicides and significant declines in reported rapes and aggravated assaults.
