Greg McElroy’s national championship winner resides in the Big Ten

Ohio State enters another season in the Big Ten projected to win the conference along with national championship expectations. This offseason, the Buckeyes went all in on trying to get some of the best transfers in the country to come to Columbus, spending around $20 million in NIL (name, image, and likeness).

Acquiring transfers such as running back Quinshon Judkins and safety Caleb Downs has people believing this is the year for Ohio State to stand atop the pinnacle of college football. ESPN’s Greg McElroy is one of those believers, as he predicts the Buckeyes will win the national championship in the first year of an expanded playoff format.

“I’m also taking Ohio State,” McElroy said in agreement with Sam Acho before ESPN’s “College Gameday.” “I think a lot of it has to do with the addition of Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator. I think they’re going to run the football. That’s what Kelly does.”

Chip Kelly certainly has the resume to back up his impressive run-heavy offense. As a former head coach for Oregon, he helped running back LaMichael James rush for 5,082 yards in just three seasons, which ranks second in school history.
