Franklin County Sheriff’s Office seeks suspect in fatal Home Depot shooting

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office continues to look for a gunman who fatally shot a man last Friday night in the parking lot of a Home Depot store in Prairie Township.

The sheriff’s office received a call at 8:56 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in the parking lot at the Home Depot located at 100 S. Grener Ave in Prairie Township. According to a search warrant filed by the sheriff’s office, the caller told dispatchers that his friend, Javier Roberto Ventura Sanchez, 20, had been shot.

Deputies arrived on scene and found Sanchez suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, the warrant states. Prairie Township fire medics arrived and transported Sanchez to OhioHealth Doctor’s Hospital in the Columbus Lincoln Village area, where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m.

Through their initial investigation, detectives determined that the suspect who shot Sanchez was driving a gray 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 when they fled the scene. The next day, Saturday, Aug. 24, a truck matching that description was found unoccupied in the 3900 block of East Broad Street in Whitehall, the search warrant states.
