Daily Growler shutters central Ohio beer garden after more than 10 years

POWELL, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A family-owned beer garden has closed one of its central Ohio locations after more than a decade of business.

The Daily Growler welcomed patrons for the last time on Sunday to the Powell location at 258 W. Olentangy River Road, the beer garden announced on social media. The bar’s closure dwindles the brand to two central Ohio locations, the original Upper Arlington store that opened in 2012 at 2812 Fishinger Road and a Brewery District spot at 702 S. High St. that launched in 2017.

“We have put this off as long as possible, and we are still working with a potential successor,” the social media post read while noting that Sunday was The Daily Growler’s “last day serving beer in Powell.”

Owner John Blakey, who operates the brand with his wife, Delores, and their son John, opened the Powell beer garden in 2014. Blakey also runs The Daily Bar at 883 N. Fourth St. in the Italian Village, a spinoff location that opened nearly three years that serves beer along with a full cocktail and wine menu.
