Email mistakenly sent to Columbus restaurants warns of Grubhub shutdown that isn’t coming

Despite what you might have seen online, Grubhub is not suspending service in Columbus on Friday and Saturday nights.

So don’t worry. You won’t have to get all primitive and drive to Taco Bell.

A notice sent from the worldwide food-delivery service Thursday to businesses in central Ohio warned that Grubhub would be unavailable Friday and Saturday between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. “due to events in your area.” It was headlined, “We’re temporarily suspending operations.”

A screenshot was shared quickly through text messages and social media posts.

A spokeswoman for Chicago-based Grubhub told The Dispatch this morning that an email was sent Thursday to Columbus businesses in error. It was intended to go to fewer than 20 Grubhub merchants in another city, she said.

Local businesses that use Grubhub for delivery were sent a follow-up email alerting them of the mistake.

“Grubhub is operating as usual,” said the spokeswoman, who apologized for the company’s error.
