Deaths of 2 young children and mother result of double-murder suicide, Columbus police say

A mother murdered her two young children and then fatally shot herself before their bodies were found in August at an apartment complex on the city’s East Side, Columbus police confirmed Monday afternoon.

Journey Fletcher, 25, and her children — 5-year-old son Jalani Jennings and 3-month-old infant girl Harmoni Agyei — were found dead on the morning of Aug. 29 in an apartment in the 3300 block of Broadmoor Avenue in the Mayfair neighborhood after a neighbor reported a foul smell, The Dispatch previously reported. First responders arrived and pronounced all three of them dead at 11:09 a.m.

Police recovered a gun at the scene in the course of their investigation. Columbus police spokesperson Jennifer Watson said on Monday they did not have any additional details to share regarding the trio’s deaths, including how detectives concluded it was a double murder-suicide or if they spoke with family members and neighbors of Fletcher.
