Columbus Schools teachers union condemns board ‘plotting, infighting’ over leaked document

The Columbus Education Association president condemned the “chaos” on the Columbus City School board Wednesday, saying members are “wallowed in plotting” in the wake of taped phone calls of board members discussing a controversial leaked document.

John Coneglio, who heads the union representing more than 4,500 teachers and other educational professionals in the district, said he believed CCS students “deserved better” than what the board of education was currently demonstrating to the public.

“As an 18-year social studies teacher who taught hundreds of CCS students about the basic responsibilities of elected officials and good governance,” Coneglio said. “It is beyond disappointing that many of our board members, who should be looked to as examples of public service, are instead wallowed in plotting, infighting, cover-ups, and self-preservation.”

Coneglio’s remarks come after the board has been roiled in the latest salvo of controversy related to a document leaked by the CEA in May.
