Columbus toasts goodbye to the Bier Stube

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — After nearly 60 years of being open for business a local bar sold its final drink last night.

The land that the buildin g sits on, just south of OSU was sold to a company that plans to build new apartments in that same spot.

Owner Craig Kempton knows the bar has had a significant impact on the community and he believes he will miss the people as much as they will miss the Bier Stube.

“I love this community, this community has been great to me,” Kempton said. “It’s been great to my family, and I believe I’ve been great back to the community again. And if you see all the people in there, it’s everybody on all for one in there.”

Watch: Last call for the Bier Stube

Students, alumni and all those who have enjoyed their time at the Bier Stube gathered on Saturday to say their final goodbye. Patron Lauren Minerd personally understands the bar’s rich history of serving many Buckeyes.

“My dad and my mom met here and they graduated from here, and so this was an institution to them,” Minerd said. “My dad and mom are here all the time and so it’s a next generation bar for us.”
