Gophers drop top-five matchup to Ohio State

The second-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers women’s hockey team lost their first game of the season, dropping a game to No. 5 Ohio State 4-3 in Columbus on Friday night.

The Buckeyes led early when Joy Dunne scored on assists from Brooke Disher and Maddi Wheeler at 3:28 of the first period but Abbey Murphy responded, scoring from Ella Huber at 5:04 of the first to tie the game at 1-1.

Jocelyn Amos gave the lead back to Ohio State with 33 seconds left in the first period with assists by Kiara Zanaon and Emma Peschel and the Buckeyes added to their lead on a power play goal by Zanon from Peschel and Jenna Buglioni at 15:23 of the second period to go into the second up 3-1.

Emma Kreisz cut into the lead on a goal from Audrey Wethington at 2:16 of the third period but Buglioni scored the second power-play goal for the Buckeyes from Amos and Wheeler at 6:20 of the third period to fend the Gophers off.
