Toddler shot inside South Side home Saturday night, multiple shots fired

A 2-year-old boy was shot inside his home Saturday night.

A ShotSpotter alert of multiple gunshots notified police of a shooting on the South Side late Saturday night, according to the Columbus Division of Police .

Around 10:12 p.m., officers arrived at the 900 block of Ellsworth Avenue after getting the alert and, less than a minute later, a 911 call was received saying a 2-year-old child was shot inside a home.

The toddler was shot in his upper torso and was taken by Columbus fire officials to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Soon after, his status was updated to stable and police say he is expected to survive.

Early police reports show the boy was inside a home in the 900 block of Ellsworth Avenue with his family when someone fired multiple shots into the residence, striking the boy.

There is no information on the suspect and detectives are investigating the area for video footage, according to Columbus police.
