Five hospitalized, including police officer, after Downtown, Columbus collision

COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) – Five people were injured including a police officer when a police cruiser was struck by a vehicle early Monday morning in Downtown, Columbus.

According to police a civilian car crashed into a cruiser at the intersection of South 4 th Street and East Rich Street at around 2:35 a.m. The police cruiser had its sirens on as the officer was responding to a report of a fire at the time.

Four people in the car were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was also transported for evaluation and the cruiser was heavily damaged in the front, where it took the collision head on. The white sedan involved in the crash sustained damage to the passenger side doors.
