Ice to rain, heavy tonight, snow and windy Sunday

A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain resulted in several hours of slick travel conditions before turning to rain, as temperatures edged above freezing. Icy conditions will linger a little longer, until midday, across the northern and eastern counties.

Temperatures will slowly climb to near 40 degrees this evening and hold steady overnight, with periods of rain, heavy at times. A flood watch is in effect through Sunday afternoon for the southeast part of the state, where 2-plus inches of rain could fall on moist ground.

Low pressure will move northeast of the Ohio Valley Sunday, ushering in colder air that will turn rain to snow showers by the afternoon, accompanied by gusty northerly winds, with an inch or two possible north of I-70. Temperatures will drift downward to around 30 by evening.

A blast of arctic air will arrive early next week, as Canadian high pressure arrives. High temperatures next week will only reach the low to mid-20s. with morning lows around 10 degrees. The wind chill on Presidents’ Day will range from -5 to -10 degrees in the morning…
