A Columbus man, Christopher O. Smith, has been sentenced to nearly 60 years to life in prison for a double homicide and an assault incident that took place in July 2022. “Judge Chris M. Brown sentenced Christopher O. Smith to 59 years to life in prison for killing Amanda Perkins and Rodney Reavish, and assaulting his then-girlfriend Casey Johnson,” according to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. The sentencing follows Smith’s conviction for Murder with a 3-year firearm specification, Aggravated Murder with a 3-year firearm specification, and Felonious Assault.
Details of the tragic event reveal that on the night of July 14, Columbus Police were called to a scene at 595 Van Buren Drive, where they found Perkins and Reavish with fatal gunshot wounds. Earlier that evening, Smith had violently argued with and attacked Johnson, choking her until she lost consciousness. After Reavish and others, including Perkins, revived Johnson, she recounted Smith’s attack, which led to an altercation and Smith’s fleeing the scene. Smith later returned to brutally shoot Perkins and Reavish outside the Van Buren Shelter, all while Reavish was on a 911 call, which captured the incident.
Perkins and Reavish were pronounced dead at the scene. “When officers arrived, they found Amanda Perkins and Rodney Reavish with gunshot wounds,” the report states through the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.
