Monroe Central completed an historic tournament run in Dayton Saturday afternoon, defeating Marion Local 43-35 to claim the Ohio Division VI state hoops championship.
The Seminoles are the first Ohio Valley team on the Ohio side to win a boys’ state title since Yorkville back in 1943. Two years prior, Martins Ferry won the 1941 crown.
Mason Lang’s squad jumped out to a 7-0 lead early against the Flyers, who won the 2018 state title and brought a 26-2 record into action Saturday.
