Monroe Central claims Ohio boys’ state hoops title; first in the Ohio Valley since 1943

Monroe Central completed an historic tournament run in Dayton Saturday afternoon, defeating Marion Local 43-35 to claim the Ohio Division VI state hoops championship.

The Seminoles are the first Ohio Valley team on the Ohio side to win a boys’ state title since Yorkville back in 1943. Two years prior, Martins Ferry won the 1941 crown.

Mason Lang’s squad jumped out to a 7-0 lead early against the Flyers, who won the 2018 state title and brought a 26-2 record into action Saturday. Sophomore Cooper Howell, who scored ten, started things off. The Seminoles lead grew to 13 in the second quarter, sparked by sophomore Corbin Farnsworth’s 12 first half points.
