Columbus police still seeking information a year later after shooting death at after-prom party

The Columbus Police Department is urging the public to come forward with information about the shooting death of 17-year-old Bryson Cochran, which occurred one year ago. Despite an extensive investigation, no arrests have been made, and detectives are hopeful that new details from the community could help bring justice.

The incident took place on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at around 12:32 a.m., when officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2900 block of Tip Top Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered a male lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Bryson Cochran, a Central High School student. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:23 a.m.

CPD’s Violent Crimes Unit took the lead on the investigation, which revealed that an after-prom party was taking place nearby at the time of the shooting, with approximately 100 people in attendance. Despite the large crowd, investigators have faced challenges as many witnesses have come forward stating that they did not see the events unfold.

With the investigation still open, the Columbus Police Department is renewing its call for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone with information about the shooting, to step forward. Detectives believe that even the smallest clue could be crucial in solving the case and bringing closure to Bryson Cochran’s grieving family.

Officials say a cash reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest, including a $5,000 contribution from Bryson Cochran’s family. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Corporal Jared Berger at 706-225-4325 or via email at [email protected]
