Memorial Tournament honors local teen who overcame adversity

DUBLIN, Ohio (WCMH) – It has become tradition at the Memorial Tournament to honor Patient Champions at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, known as the Golden Cubs. That group of 10 are treated to a VIP experience, meeting the golfers and celebrities, hanging with Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and of course, treated to a famous Muirfield milkshake.

Among this year’s Golden Cub group is Emersen White, whose life changed forever in December 2020.

“A couple days after Christmas in 2020, I started feeling sick with typical flu-like symptoms and after those symptoms worsened, my parents decided to take me to Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” said Emersen. “After extensive testing, I learned that I had developed MSSA which is a staph infection.”…
