Grove City senior doesn’t fall for phony deputy threatening arrest for missed jury duty

GROVE CITY, Ohio (WSYX) — Central Ohio residents, including one woman who lost $3,000, are being targeted by phone scammers posing as law enforcement officers, attempting to extort money by threatening arrest.

Phillip Cantrell, a 79-year-old Grove City resident, recently received a call from someone claiming to be a deputy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The caller falsely informed Cantrell that there was an arrest warrant for him due to missed jury duty.

“If I didn’t do what he said, they would be sending an officer out to arrest me,” Cantrell said. “That’s when I got to worrying.”…
