Hiker killed in Hocking Hills, officials urge sober boating and the meaning of ‘Ohio’ online

A brief reprieve before hot and steamy temperatures move in. After a pretty comfortable day for early July, we are in for another comfortable night with lows falling into the 60s. Thursday will be a step warmer statewide with highs in the mid and upper 80s. Humidity will still be bearable. A stray shower or two is not out of the question. An uprooted tree fell and killed a hiker in Hocking Hills Tuesday, the Hocking County Coroner’s Office confirmed. The coroner’s office said the hiker died around noon on the Lower Rim Trail in the Conkles Hollow State Nature Preserve.

The phrase “drive sober or get pulled over” goes for boats, too. As many people plan to head onto one of Ohio’s lakes with the boat this holiday weekend, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources urged residents to leave the alcohol at home.
