Man sentenced in fatal east Columbus birthday party shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A man accused of killing another man 14 months ago during the victim’s birthday party has pleaded guilty and received his prison sentence.

A release from the office of the Franklin County prosecutor’s office said that 32-year-old Al-Saiah Griffin has pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence. Griffin was sentenced to serve a minimum of 25 years in prison with a maximum sentence of 30.5 years in the death of 34-year-old Tyler Goins.

On May 18, 2024, Columbus police received a report of the shooting at the 4100 block of Vineshire Drive at 12:35 a.m. Goins was celebrating his birthday with Griffin and another man when an argument began.
