Experts warn of Ohio tick expansion and rising tickborne diseases

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Be aware of ticks! That’s the message from Ohio State tick expert Timothy McDermott and the Ohio Department of Health following an increasing number of sick Ohioans and more tick species calling more places home across the state.

“Ohio is on the front lines really of tick expansion and new ticks here in the eastern half of the United States,” McDermott said. “We’ve gone from one tick of medical importance about 15-20 years ago to having five now, including adding two new ones in just the past few years.”
